Ice Techs 5, Cracked Ice 3

Ice Techs wrapped up the Holiday Bowl before the first stone was thrown last Saturday but had a winning streak to protect.

Scoring two points in the 5th end, Ice Techs defeated Cracked Ice to finish Holiday Bowl with a perfect 3-0 record, winning the final game, 5-3. Continue reading

Holiday Bowl teams playing for pride tonight

Anthracite Curling Club returns to Ice Rink at Coal Street Park with the conclusion of its inaugural Holiday Bowl competition.

Tonight, pride is on the line for the four teams involved. On Sheet 1, Squirrels and Happy Hour will play for second place in the tournament. Next to them on Sheet 2, Cracked Ice will be seeking its first Holiday Bowl win and could spoil a long winning streak of the Bowl champs, Ice Techs.

The combination of Ice Techs’ win over Squirrels last week and Happy Hour defeating Cracked Ice, Ice Techs clinched a spot in the Winter League championship in early March. Continue reading

USA Curling Nationals set for Philly in February

A chance to see world-class curling competition is coming to Pennsylvania in just two months and your opportunity to get close to the action is very real.

The 2012 USA Curling Nationals will be held from Feb. 11-18 at IceWorks Skating Complex in Aston, Pa., just outside Philadelphia.  The Men’s and Women’s fields will consist of the 10 best teams in the country, all competing to represent the U.S. at the World Championships. Continue reading

WINTER LEAGUE UPDATE: Schedule announced

Four teams will play a three-round, Round Robin tournament through the beginning of 2012 at Anthracite Curling Club.

Draws will take place from 9:45 p.m. until Midnight on the following nights: Dec. 10, Dec. 17 and Jan. 7. The following teams will be competing: Ice Techs, Cracked Ice, Squirrels and Happy Hour.

After the three-week competition, the teams will reorganize and allow more teams to join for a final four-week competition.

If there are no new teams which form in that time, a second three-week competition will be held. On the last curling session of the winter in March, the winners of each Round Robin tournament will play for the Winter championship.

A blind draw was held to determine scheduling. Here are the draws for each of the three weeks:
