Rough Starts For U.S. Teams

Team USA certainly had visions of a different beginning to the Round Robin portion of the 2014 Sochi Olympics curling tournament.

Both the Womens’ and Mens’ teams lost their opening draws today (Monday) in front of packed houses at the Ice Cube curling center in Sochi. The Swiss women overcame a very slow start and defeated Team Erika Brown, 7-4.

The U.S. Men lost by the same count to Norway later in the day. The Americans could only score one point after the 4th end in that draw.

Luckily, it’s a Round Robin tournament and the U.S. can certainly bounce back in both competitions. Curling’s a fickle game like that and a team playing with confidence can be dangerous in this format.

If you saw today’s draw vs. Switzerland, you can see how the momentum shifted even in the middle of the match.
