A total of five Anthracite Curling Club members are participating at the Harvest bonspiel at Philadelphia Curling Club. This is a traditional Mixed bonspiel, with teams comprised of two women and two men.
There are 18 teams competing in the tournament with clubs from Philadelphia, Bucks County, Broomstones (Mass.), Plainfield (N.J.), Potomac (Md.), Chesapeake (Md.), Long Beach Island (N.J.), Nutmeg (Conn.) and Dallas/Fort Worth in addition to the two teams featuring Anthracite curlers.
Club President Alison Piatt is Vice of the Ardsley Ducks (Ardsley Curling Club). The team comprised of Anthracite curlers features Maria Maas (Lead), Kimm Montone (Second), Dana Griesback (Vice) and Joshua Sophy (Skip).
The Anthracite team won its First Event First Round draw against a team from Philadelphia/Broomstones Curling clubs, 9-8, stealing a point in the 8th end for the win. A loss in the Second Round to a team from Broomstones dropped the team to the Third Event.
Ardsley lost its first two draws, running into incredibly difficult teams (including a former champion of this event) but had their luck turn around in the Third Event First Round, defeating Anthracite, 8-3, taking 3 points in the 7th end to break open a tie game after six ends.
