Anthracite Curling Club is proud to help represent Grand National Curling Club at this weekend’s Ross Tarlton International Bonspiel, hosted in 2012 at Utica (N.Y.) Curling Club.
The Club was to be represented by 2012 Club Champion Skip Lyle Kerrick and his Club teammate Thom Kivler playing along side two GNCC-appointed Substitutes but due to Thom being called to active duty with the National Guard, he was unable to attend.
Lyle is now joined by two Subs from Ardsley (N.Y.) Curling Club and a Sub from host Utica.
The Ross Tarlton is one of the more revered bonspiels on the annual calendar and is unique in nature. The bonspiel is a Friendly which pits eight teams from GNCC versus eight teams from Ontario Curling Association.
Anthracite was selected to field a team to represent the GNCC for a two-year term. The first year’s bonspiel is held at a GNCC club here in the U.S. The second year is hosted by a club in the OCA.
Each team plays a total of four games, two on Friday and two on Saturday. A banquet concludes each year’s event.
Through two games today, Lyle reports his team has worked a tie in each. A 6-6 score was the result of the 8 a.m. draw. His team ended tied in the afternoon draw, 4-4.
The combined scores of all the games will determine the winner of the bonspiel.
