Playoff Curling: Underdogs must buck season trends to advance

There’s a time and a place for everything and now is the time and this is the place for this clip …

The Spring League Divisional Playoffs are this Tuesday night and if the regular season is any indication, the division champs Demented Magenta and Walrus & Mermaids are the favorites.

Walrus & Mermaids (7-0) will have choice of sheet and Hammer in the Barre Divisional Playoff (7 p.m., Tuesday) when they face Happy Hour (3-4) for the third time this season. Obviously, W&M swept the season series from Happy Hour and will need a third win to advance to the Spring League Championship game next week.

They (who’s they) say: Beating a team a third time in a year is the hardest thing to do and not only will that test be facing the Barre Division champ but also the recently-crowned Wilkes Division champion Demented Magenta.

DM (4-3) topped Buffalo Bills (3-4) two weeks ago and swept the season series in the process. They, too, must defeat an opponent for a third time this season in order to lock a place up in the Spring League Championship. The Wilkes Division champs will have their choice of Hammer/Stones for the draw on Tuesday night.

Goodies and Falcons are scheduled for Sheet 2 in the Consolation round draw.
