The inaugural United States Curling Association Arena Curling National Championship, an event designed specifically for curlers who utilize arena curling facilities, will debut next summer. This new championship will take place July 18-21 at the Fort Wayne Curling Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
“The Fort Wayne Curling Club is excited that the USCA has initiated a new Arena Championship to provide many of the newest curling clubs in the United States, like us, the ability to compete against clubs of similar circumstances,” said Craig Fisher, Fort Wayne Curling Club president and chairman of the 2013 Arena Curling National Championships. Anthracite Curling Club is proud to help represent Grand National Curling Club at this weekend’s Ross Tarlton International Bonspiel, hosted in 2012 at Utica (N.Y.) Curling Club.
The Club was to be represented by 2012 Club Champion Skip Lyle Kerrick and his Club teammate Thom Kivler playing along side two GNCC-appointed Substitutes but due to Thom being called to active duty with the National Guard, he was unable to attend.
The Plainfield rink of Beverly Wiedemann, John Wiedemann, Brian Ewart, and Scott Alexander defeated the home team of Lyle Kerrick, Dave Cawley, Amy Casagrande, and Al Winter (via Nutmeg) in the Third Event Final to take Fifth Place at the Inaugural Diamond City Bonspiel.
In the Fourth Event Final (for Seventh Place), the home Anthracite side of Joshua Sophy, Kurt Maas, Kimm Montone, and Dana Griesback defeated Villanova Curling’s Miggy Gutierrez, Shawn Plesnick, Margaret O’Leary, and Bill Solomito.
