Week 7: Goody’s gets first win after pre-game practice

Goody’s was “talkin’ about practice” on Tuesday night, spending considerable time on Sheet 4 working on draws and shooting form. The practice paid off, as they say, resulting in the team’s first win of the season. In other action on the ice during Week 7 of Anthracite Curling Club’s 2011 Spring/Summer League, the race in the Fell Conference is growing in intensity with three teams now tied for first place and two more within two games.

Two more draws decided “at the buzzer” in Week 3 play

In just three weeks of play, there have already been more than a handful of games decided in the last shot of the last end, and that trend continued on Friday night as two more draws were decided at the death.

Balanced competition: Just three teams remain unbeaten after Week 2

After two weeks of League play, there are just three unbeaten teams.

Two of those teams reside in the Fell Conference. Team Piatt upset defending champion Team Lyons, 8-1, in an 8 p.m. draw. For Skip Alison Piatt, the win total matches her team’s total from the entire hard-luck 2010 Summer League.

Also keeping a perfect record is Team Grassi, which won its draw over Goody’s despite only having one regular player present.

In the Smith Conference, the Squirrels survived its second scare and nail-biting final end and won a tight draw against Team Maas to improve to 2-0.

Teams look for hot starts, redemption in Week 2 draws

All the jitters and feeling-out time has passed and new teammates are more comfortable in new settings. Week 2 of Anthracite Curling Club’s Spring/Summer 2011 season is upon us and there are six draws Tuesday night at The Ice Rink at Coal Street Park.

Two draws feature a pair of unbeaten teams and two more draws feature teams looking for their first wins of the early season. And the other draws feature teams who barely missed out on victories last week. Continue reading

Draw Report: Lyons 14, Goody’s 1

Team Lyons returned to the ice as defending champions and looked in good form during its 14-1 victory over Goody’s on Tuesday night. Lyons scored points in the first five ends to take control of the draw. Continue reading

Draw Report: Squirrels 6, MLC 4

The Squirrels were able to hold off two comebacks from MLC in a 6-4, 7-end victory Tuesday night on Sheet 1.

After taking a 2-0 lead, the Squirrels surrendered a point in the 3rd and 4th ends before taking three in the 5th. MLC got two back in the 6th but couldn’t steal any points in the final end. Continue reading
