The races in each division got much more interesting after Saturday night’s draw results.
Walrus & Mermaids defeated Falcons, 6-5, in an 8-end thriller to remain unbeaten this season and atop the Barre Division standings as we near the halfway point of the Spring League. After eventually falling behind after consecutive Falcon steals of a single point in the 3rd and 4th ends, the 3-0 Walrus & Mermaids rattled off three points, including a steal of two in the 6th end to take the lead back.
The advantage would be short-lived but not long forgotten. Down two points, Falcons got the needed pair in the 7th, setting up the decisive 8th end.
Walrus & Mermaids are joined at the top of the standings by Happy Hour, which won its third draw of the season, getting the decisive points in the 7th end to defeat previously-unbeaten Demented Magenta, 6-4, on Sheet 1.
A steal of three points in the 5th end gave Happy Hour the lead after struggling to score more than a point over the first four ends. Demented Magenta was able to stay in the game and tie it at 4-4 with a single in the 6th end before Eddie Perrino’s team was able to get a pair for the win in the 7th.
Happy Hour and Walrus & Mermaids are tied atop the Barre Division, each with 3-0 records. Falcons are behind at 0-3 but still have life in the chase for second and the playoffs, at least.
Demented Magenta could absorb the loss and still remain alone atop the Wilkes Division. At 2-1, they now stand a game ahead of Buffalo Bills, which defeated Goodies, 10-3, on Saturday night.
