Many teams taking the ice tonight for Week 6 of the 2010 Summer League will surpass the half-way points in their regular seasons. Some of those teams have a chance to set themselves apart as an odds-on favorite for the postseason, others need wins to maintain a spot in a playoffs battle, and some others are trying to keep themselves in the mix.
As always there are six draws tonight at Coal Street Park. Arriving early guarantees spectators four hours of competitive curling. Here are previews of tonight’s draws:
Team RAMROD (2-1-1) vs. C & Ds (3-0) | Sheet 1, 6 p.m.
RAMROD figures to still be basking in last week’s 15-3 win, a victory which put them into a first-place tie in the Buckwheat Division. Meanwhile, C & Ds returns from an extended break as the league’s only unbeaten and untied team.
Goody’s (1-2-1) vs. Fifteen (3-1) | Sheet 2, 6 p.m.
Goody’s hasn’t played in about a month, when the team earned its first victory. The team has quite a challenge ahead this week as they try to maintain some fight in the Stove Division. Fifteen suffered its first loss last week and will need a win to stay near the top of the competitive Steamboat Division.
Lyons (2-0-1) vs. Schoolhouse Rocks! (1-4) | Sheet 3, 6 p.m.
Lyons remains unbeaten but well-tested this season, and is atop a game Stove Division. This week they’ll face Schoolhouse Rocks! which will have played five times in five days, and is coming off its first league win last week. SR! competed this past weekend at the GNCC Arena Curling Club Championship bonspiel.
Blind Squirrels (2-1-1) vs. WINOs (2-2) | Sheet 1, 8 p.m.
The Squirrels need a win to maintain the first-place pace they’ve maintained from the start of the season. It lost for the first time last week. This week they’re joined by super-sub Dave Cawley as the team endures a roster transition. Cawley played two games last week for WINOs, which was able to even its record on the season. WINOs can assert itself in the Chestnut Division with a third-consecutive win this week.
Stone Cold (1-2-1) vs. Boss Hog-Line (1-1) | Sheet 2, 8 p.m.
Stone Cold is looking to erase memories of a loss last week and needs a win to stay in the race for first in the Buckwheat Division. BHL lost its last draw two weeks ago and surely won’t have too many more (if any) Bye weeks before the end of the season. Its two games are the least played in the league.
Cracked Ice (1-2) vs. Whippersnappers (3-0-1) | Sheet 3, 8 p.m.
Cracked Ice clearly would enjoy a victory tonight as its division race begins to take shape. The team dropped a close 5-3 decision last week to MLC. Whippersnappers have found themselves in a division race since last playing. Suddenly a team is on their tails and win tonight secures itself atop the Steamboat Division for another week.
