Divisions taking shape after Week 4 action

As the hacks were chiseled from the ice at Coal Street Park several minutes past 10 o’clock, several divisions in Anthracite Curling Club’s 2010 Summer League had clear leaders and the league can see several clear favorites for the postseason as it heads into sabbatical next week.

Four teams remained undefeated by night’s end, and two are in the same division. With an extra game played, Whippersnappers (3-0-1) stayed atop the Steamboat Division with a convincing 7-3 win over Team IX (0-3), which drops five points behind Lyons in the Stove Division.

After its tie last week Whippersnappers needed a victory this week as newly-minted Fifteen also won to improve its record to 3-0, still one game in-hand on the Steamboat leaders. Fifteen was able to topple Team XVI, 4-2, in a tight, six-end match.

Cs+Ds (3-0) took down JEMM, 10-5, in one draw. The win puts the Eddie Perrino-skipped team a two wins ahead of their nearest opponent in the Chestnut Division, though each other team has one less game played. The loss drops JEMM (1-2) to third place in the Stove Division, but that’s a race far from decided.

And in the Buckwheat Division, Schuylkill County Blind Squirrels took full advantage of its game in-hand, defeating Boss Hog-Line, 6-3, in a late-night draw. The Squirrels (2-0-1) are now a full game ahead of the rest of that tight division race as the league enters the break. BHL drops to 1-1 with the loss, trailing the leading Cs+Ds in the Chestnut Division.

Two teams also earned first victories last night as Cracked Ice defeated WINOs in an intra-Chestnut Division battle, 7-3, and in doing so moves ahead of them in the premature standings. Goody’s ended its tough-luck run with an 11-3 win over Schoolhouse Rocks! in an early draw. Goody’s (1-2-1) moves into second place in the Stove Division with the win.

* Correction: We erroneously reported that Cs+Ds were scheduled to face Lyons on June 1. Instead of Lyons, Cs+Ds faced JEMM.
