The Anthracite Curling team of Lyle Kerrick, Monica Lynn and Michael Detweiler is competing this weekend at the Blazing Leaves bonspiel held at Nutmeg Curling Club in Bridgeport, Conn.

Only three members were able to make the trip so they have enlisted the help of a local Nutmeg substitute.

Blazing Leaves is a four-event bonspiel. The first draws began at 4:45 p.m. Friday evening.

Tracking the results:

Philadelphia 10, Anthracite 2
According to Michael D., Anthracite ran into a Philadelphia team curling for 20 years and ended up on the wrong side of the result. He reports, despite the loss, the team is “having a blast.”

Moaners (Nutmeg) 10, Anthracite 6
Michael says the team is playing well against some tough competition. Anthracite was able to put some more points on the board but could keep one of the bonspiel’s host teams off it enough.

Okla-haven 10, Anthracite 5
Anthracite was eliminated from the bonspiel, but Michael reports the team’s spirits are high and they’ve enjoyed their team at Nutmeg Curling. He says the club has played the perfect host.
Unfortunately, the draw played against Anthracite’s favor. Okla-Haven won its first draw of the tournament but lost the second, moving the 1-1 team to the Third Event bracket.
