Anthracite Curling Club sent a pair of teams to the USWCA 5 & Under Bonspiel at Philadelphia Curling Club in October 2011.
The team then known as Squirrels (Sophy, Dorval, Montone, Pearson) came home with the Fourth Event championship, defeating Team Burns of Plainfield Curling Club, 8-4, in the final on Sunday morning. The Club was also represented by Misericordia University Curling Club (Piatt-Leonard-Griesback-Maas).
The two Anthracite teams actually met during the course of the bonspiel, with Squirrels coming out on top, 10-1. Overall, Squirrels finished the bonspiel with a 2-2 record (and the first Event Final victory in Club history) and Misericordia finished with an 0-3 record.
