Team Dunham (Philadelphia) captured the GNCC Junior Men’s Championship during the Junior Regional Playdowns and Championship from Dec. 26-30, 2012. Team Ely (Rochester) captured the Women’s crown by defeating four other teams.
A total of 10 Junior Men’s and 5 Junior Women’s teams competed for the title of GNCC Junior Champion.
Three berths (1 Men’s and 2 Women’s) into the 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championship were also on the line that weekend. Team Anderson (Philadelphia), the runner-up, will also represent GNCC at the national tournament on the Women’s side. Continue reading
The 2013 Winter League begins tonight, the day after the failed apocalypse, and four teams are chasing down the first League championship of the New Year.
The league will be played in a double Round Robin format and the top two placed teams at the end of those six draws will face in the Winter League First Event Final on March 16. The third- and fourth-place teams will play for the Second Event. Continue reading
The inaugural United States Curling Association Arena Curling National Championship, an event designed specifically for curlers who utilize arena curling facilities, will debut next summer. This new championship will take place July 18-21 at the Fort Wayne Curling Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.
“The Fort Wayne Curling Club is excited that the USCA has initiated a new Arena Championship to provide many of the newest curling clubs in the United States, like us, the ability to compete against clubs of similar circumstances,” said Craig Fisher, Fort Wayne Curling Club president and chairman of the 2013 Arena Curling National Championships. In the fourth night of the 2012 Fall League, the leaders from the outset, House Hunters, was able to secure a spot in the First Event Finals on Dec. 8 with a walk-over winner against Machu Picchu.
That result improves the team to 4-0 and they await their opponent in the Finals. The only question remaining is whether they’ll run the table and finish the Round Robin season with an unblemished record. Continue reading
